Using the same core principles that are the basis of our Centre has started a Community Rehabilitation Programme in the coastal areas of Trivandrum for the rehabilitation of disabled children. So far, we have rehabilitated 76 handicapped children by giving them walking aids, arranging awareness meetings, and providing vocational training. In addition to this, we have a Community Outreach Programme designed to deliver services to disabled people in their own communities. It promotes development, self-reliance, and integration of the disabled into the community with the support of local leadership.

We have also begun an Early Intervention Program for children in the community. Envisaged by Mrs. Helen Azariah, Hon. Director of the CRD, this new programme is initiated with a view to giving free rehabilitation services to children below five years. As a fIrst step 12 children aged between 1 year and 5 years were selected and they along with their parents are brought to this Centre twice a week to get rehabilitation service like physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, awareness sessions for parents and so on. We arrange conveyance for the parents and children.
